If the market (private organizations) had always been in control, and the government had never become socialist, then civilization as we know it could be so much more advanced than it is. If your like most people today you might stronly disagree with this statement, but STOP WAIT LET ME EXPLAIN! Whenever the government passes an act of socialism it slows down the creative process (the creative process being the process that allows for innovation) For example, lets say that the government gives unemployed people a check every month. Now at first glance this sounds great because people can easily fall on hard times and need that money, I'm not denying that. However, when we make this law, even if it is only in affect for the say first year of unemployment or something, it causes the unemployed person to become dependent on this check and never seek a job, or only seek a job at the last second. While this person is unemployed he is not using his mind for the betterment of mankind by innovating new things. However, if the government didn't give this person a check everymoth than that would give him or her the incentive to try to invent or get a job or something then the world would be a better place because if he succeeds then life would be easier by having a job filled or by having something else to sell, and if he fails, then at least he would not be living on funds made from coercion (funds made from coercion are taxes, because what happens if you dont pay what is rightfully yyours, the government locks you up) This might make me sound unsympathetic to poor people, this is not the case, just because the government is giving money to the poor through coercion doesn't mean that a private charity is running and helping the poor. In fact it should be said that the fact that there are private charities in a society with this example of the Government enforcing welfare is amazing because the government has to be doing an awful job for other companies that do the same thing to sprout up. however that is for another day, today it is enough to convince you that life would be better if the government wasn't socialist.
